Scots Pine

In Germany, pine needles were used to make a "forest wool" (wald-wolle), which was used in bedding, and has since become famous for making mattresses for people with rheumatism.

They also boiled the needles in alkaline water and then extracted the "essential oil of the forest" from this water. This was then used in washes against gout and rheumatism. They also prepared a "balsamic syrup from pine needles".
