Tangerine
Tangerins have been cultivated for thousands of years in India and China and later spread along ancient trade routes to Western Asia, the Mediterranean and North Africa.
Tangerines became a prized gift during the Great Depression in the US while many families could not afford to buy gifts. Citrus fruits were considered a luxury gift that provided nutrients during these times of scarcity.
Today they are mainly produced in China. They are grown in home gardens and commercial growers in Asia, Europe, South and North America, Africa and Australia.
