
Peppermint
Mint comes from Mediterranean countries and China. It is one of the most common aromatic plants and has been known since ancient times.
In Greek mythology it is said that it got its name from the bride of Hades, Mintis, who transformed it into a plant to avoid the jealousy of Persephone.
Peppermint was cultivated in Minoan times and was also used by Hippocrates and Galen and other ancient physicians for its healing properties.
The main countries where mint is grown are India, Russia, England, China, Australia, Germany and the USA.
It is mainly used to produce essential oil which is in high demand for a variety of uses.
